We provide hope in Jesus Christ by sharing the Gospel during monthly visits to children with cancer. Medicine, medical equipment, Bible activity books, craft material, and toiletries are given out as well.
In 2014 we started a new and important project, thanks to an unprecedented opportunity for our team to minister to children receiving cancer treatment in a Cuban hospital.
Joining forces with a local group led by pastor Yoan Reyes, ACTION personnel have been granted permission to share the Gospel and pray with each sick child and hurting family during monthly visits.
The children range in age from about one year old to 18. None of the hospital staff are Christians, but all are competent, compassionate, dedicated professionals. It is a pleasure to be associated with them. They work hard to have a 60% survival rate and are open to any source of encouragement and blessing they can obtain for their young patients.
Our short-term teams made two visits in 2014 to complement the monthly visits by our Cuban team. In addition we made a third trip to deliver needed medical supplies, though we were not able to visit the children at that specific time.
Many of the children have made a profession of faith due to these visits, and twice the hospital has allowed the teenagers to have 3-hour pass in order to attend Pastor Yoan’s church!
Of course, the hospital visits also serve to encourage and give hope to the moms, who stay with their children 24/7 and watch them go through horrible discomfort. Many of the moms have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. As the Hope of Life ministry grows, we would like to add expand our ministry to the families of the hospitalized children.
Thanks to finances provided by our supporters, each month our Cuban team takes in personal hygiene items for each patient, such as soap, toothpaste, toilet paper and laundry detergent. Each visit also concludes with cake and ice cream for all the children, families, and hospital staff.
Our missions teams complement these efforts by taking in medicine and medical equipment requested by the doctors, uniforms for the nurses, and art supplies, craft material, Bible activity books, and toys for the children.
