2011 Katharine Moreland Scholarship Awarded

During my recent trip to Cuba (November 1-20) ACTION was pleased to award the 2011 Katharine Moreland Scholarship to María Ruiz Turro, wife of pastor Anán Noa. Both María and Anán were present at the ceremony on November 2nd to receive her award. Five finalists were also recognized that evening for their contribution to the church in Cuba.

In 2008 Action International Ministries began awarding annual scholarships to Cuban women who desire to pursue either theological education or ministerial training. In our numerous trips to Cuba this need became very evident, as we met so many women who the Lord had raised up to serve at either the local or national level, including teachers, evangelists, women’s group leaders, and administrators.

We also noticed that opportunities for Biblical training are limited for women, primarily due to finances, and particularly if they are raising a family.

In response, we are now very blessed to work closely with leaders of evangelical denominations to select candidates who are wives and moms, have a history of service in the church, and are eager to enroll in a Cuban Bible school or seminary.

Both four-year and one-year scholarships are awarded, and they are structured so that all expenses are covered, such as tuition, transportation, books, and supplies. A monthly stipend is also included so that these studies are not a burden on the families.

We invite you to join us in honoring these Cuban women who are so faithful to their families and churches, by assisting the Katherine Moreland Scholarship in providing the resources necessary for them to carry out their dream of further education.
